Coromandel wooden Reutter Atmos clock, Art Deco period and style, France ca 1930.
Very beautiful Art Deco cabinet with a J. LReutter timepiece that provides an automatic permanent timekeeping. The movement is in a wooden cabinet with coromandel veneers and fruitwood, silvered dial, Roman numerals, signature on the dial: Atmos Pendulum Perpétuelle, Brevets J. L. Reutter.
Operation: In the drum are a gas and mercury tube, they respond to changes in temperature fluctuations. The thermal current that originates in the drum is used to drive the clock. The continuous interaction of the gas and mercury with the temperature ensure a continuous drive and creates a so called Pendulum Perpetual. The principle was invented, developed and patented by engineer J. L. Reutter. Stylistically and technically an ingenious clock.
