35-cm arched brass dial with wheatear engraved border and an engraved silvered chapter ring signed Gerrit Storm Amsterdam. In the centre apertures for date and day (with day-sign) both surrounded by foliate engraved scrolls and a subsidiary for seconds. A further aperture in the arch for the moonphase with an engraved plaque above for tune selection. The lower corners hold gilt brass foliate pierced urn and bird spandrels. The upper corners hold subsidiaries for play/not play and strike/not strike.
Weight driven 8-day movement with anchor escapement and Dutch half hour striking on two alternating bells. Musical mechanism playing one of twelve tunes every half hour or at will.
Monumental case with unusually shaped cornice and top, surmounted by fine and rare parcel gilt figures of Atlas and two male deities. The whole veneered with well figured burr walnut of rich color with subtle string and scroll marquetry inlay. The trunk has rare concave corners flanking the shaped door with brass lenticle. The well proportioned base with protruding scrolls to the canted corners and strong moldings. The whole raised on ball and claw feet.
