The transport of the colonials
This painting is a study for the painting "The transport of the colonials". The final version is in Kröller-Müller Museum, Otterloo, The Netherlands.
The painting depicts the departure of a group of soldiers to the former Dutch East Indies,
where they were stationed to maintain the order.
The observation of Isaac Israels is cool and aloof. He made this painting in 1883, he was only 17 years old,
but one sees already all the virtuoso brushwork.
