A Chinese bronze Ding Spring and Autumn period, Eastern Zhou Dynasty China

A hemispherical ding with a pendulous underside and cabriole legs. The inverted U-shaped handles are perfectly vertical and topped by small knobs. A vertical mold mark runs from each leg up through the decorative frieze. This consists of three bands of stylised animal motifs.
