Description

A Blue and White Creampot in Dutch Delftware

A tripod neck Pot (Roompot) in spherical form resting on three feet, provided with two handles and a neck. Rare corporative decoration on the outside of the pot representing on the one side the trade of wet cooper at work with the tools corresponding. On the other side is the Brick-maker (trade very seldom represented) with a workshop in activity. The base is decorated with base flowered lambrequins and scrolls, at the bottom of the pot a bird with spread wings.

This pot was used for to receive and heat the wine, and to possibly recover pigs blood. A similar pot, signed by the same hand, dated 1703, is preserved at the National Museum of Ceramics in Sèvres.
