Description
A Flower Filled Basket in White Malicorne Earthenware
This very decorative fruit-basket is manufactured in Malicorne, France. All the pieces have been made separately and have been composed later. Therefore the details on the fruit and flowers are so vivid.
In 1747 the potter Jean Loisseau, who formerly worked in Nevers, requested permission to open his own pottery in the town of Malicorne sur Sarthe. Because of the ideal location between the cities of Le Mans and Angers, and the rich amount of clay nearby, Malicorne grew to a well-known pottery-town in the second half of the eighteenth century.
