Description

SOLD No 19 Marine chronometer by Vissière au Havre (Seine Inférieure), France, No.192, c. 1855. Fine small 49 hour going (two day) chronometer with regulator dial. Three body mahogany box with external brass handles, glazed upper section with hinged lid. Brass bowl and gimballed suspension mounted on shock absorber. The round white regulator style porcelain dial has Arabic numbers for the five-minute marks on the outside minute chapter, two subsidiary dials with Roman numerals for the hours and Arabic numbers for the ten-second marks, an Up-and- Down indicator marked 0-49. Blued steel Breguet hands. Movement: The two-day movement is housed in a weighted gimballed tub with a shutter back for winding, has screwed, turned posts, a bimetallic balance with adjustable timing and compensation weights, a conical hairspring, a detent escapement, a chain fusee and is engraved on the back, 'Vissiere No. 192'. Case and movement are in a very good condition. Dial Ø. ….mm. Dimension case ca. 16 x 16 x 17 cm. Simon Vissiere, 1822-1887, was a student of Winnerl. He was awarded a patent for a balance and specialised in magnetic influence on chronometers. Price on request.
