Description
A large French Louis XIV-style gilt bronze tête de poupée mantel clock with calendar by Dernière à Paris, circa 1860
24-cm gilt bronze dial with foliate relief ornament and enamel cartouche numerals, shaped blued hands and date pointer. The scroll engraved centre with an outer ring calibrated for date and apertures for day of the week and moonphase with the signature Denière below. The substantial bronze case with two-tone gilding and well chiseled details throughout, surmounted by the seated figure of Chronos. A central female mask above and scrolling leaves below. The sides with musical trophies and classical ‘cassette’ paneled roof. The whole on tapered caneled feet with acanthus leaves. Similarly signed 8-day movement with Brocot escapement and countwheel half hour striking on a bell, with connection to the calendar mechanism.
