Description
No 20. “Mysterieuse” attributed to Jean Eugène Robert-Houdin, Paris, ca. 1840. Fine and rare mystery clock, glass-dial in gilt bezel with Roman numerals, gilded bronze. Eight-day going movement, striking the hours and half-hours on a bell. Single gilt arrow hand. Movement with two going barrels, anchor escapement, silk suspension, pendulum. Adjusting pendulum and winding on the back plate. On bach plate signed ‘Brevet d’ invention’. The invention of the mechanism is made by Jean Eugène Robert-Houdin. Top with Y-shaped frame holding the dial raised on a foliate waisted pedestal decorated with applied ormolu scrolling, decorative mounts, a putty in the centre, above two griffins. The whole standing on gilt wood and ebonised base. Height 22 cm, depth 12 cm width 17 cm. Price 14.500,--
