Very beautiful and completely original Louis XVI mantel clock on the backplate signed Le Roy Nantes, 1780. The 8 day movement is equipped with a Petite Sonnerie striking on three silver bells, something quite rare in French timepieces. The base is made of oak, veneered with ebony. All in all a very beautiful and rare whole. Literature: The horlogier Nantes Le Roy is mentioned in the Dictionaire Horlogiers des Français, Tardy, pages 404/405. Similar clocks are featured in the Encyclopedia La Française Pendulum, Pierre Kjelberg, page 189. Vergoldete Bronze Otto Meyer and Pröschel, page 192.
