30-hour anchor movement with alarm and half hour countwheel striking on a bell, maddered oak case.

painted dial (reverse dated 1836) with foliate spandrels and waterscape in the arch, applied pewter chapter ring with Roman numerals signed Veltman Amsterdam for the retailer, brass hands and alarm disc, 30- hour weight driven brass posted movement with anchor escapement, countwheel half hour striking and alarm on a bell, well proportioned stained oak case with broken pediment lined with brass mouldings surmounted by three turned finials, freeze and sides with painted scenes behind glass panels, canted corners with ebonised pilasters, pierced shaped brackets and tail with brass lenticle.

Small Frisian wall clocks with a tail (staartklok) are called 'notary'- or 'office' clocks. This probably has to do with the richer clientèle that bought them. In comparison with the normal tailclocks they are more rare. This is combined with the also rare Burgomaster or Groningen tailclocks that have classical pediments in combination with painted panels. So this clock combines two less common types of tailclock and has lovely small proportions.
