Description

an "Assendelfter"cupboard with four doors and 2 drawers and an open arch. Northern Netherlands, Holland, Zaanstreek. Made of cedar and oak at the beginning of the 18th century.

a four-door cupboard with four doors, two drawers and an open arch in the upperpart. The cupboard is for the greater part made of cedar and the inside is made of oak. That is quite unusual because most of this type of cupboards are made of pine and than decorated with a polychrome biblical scene. They were made in the province of Holland, in the northern part, the Zaanstreek and they are given the name "Assendelfter"cupboards. There still excists about 50 of these cupboards worldwide but there are only a few which are originally without decoration.
