Description
A Dutch two-door cupboard with columns, ca.1640-50
A tall two-door cupboard with columns. This cupboard originates from the Northern Netherlands, the Province of Holland. It is a richly made cupboard which marks the end of the Renaissance and the beginning of the Baroque style and therefore it can be dated around 1640-50. The cupboard is made of oak and is for the most part veneered with ebony and rosewood. Prominent is the high underside with drawers and the still undeep sides of the cupboard. The Rijksmuseum has in its collection a simular cupboard but this one is 20 years younger than ours and has already all the characters of the Baroque.
