An early fourdoor cupboard with two drawers from the Northern Netherlands, the province of Zeeland, a so called troon-of buffetkast decorated with marquetery, inlay and sculptures. Renaissance ca. 1600-1620. The door panels are decorated with perspectiv views inspired by designs of Hans Vredeman de Vries. The cupboard is made of oak and walnut, the inlay and marquetery is made of birch, beech, holly, apple, lignum, vitae, golden chain, ash, plum, burr mapple, burr poplar, ebony and rosewood. This marquetery was probably made by an Antwerp specialist, because in this town they were famous for the marquetery work in the second half of the sixteenth century. The Rotterdam Museum Boymans van Beuningen has an identical cupboard.
