Description
A commode with a drawer and a tambour door. The diagonaly placed front legs that reach up to the top are decorated with ‘trompe-l’oeil’ glyphes. The legs end in ormolu ‘sabots’. The sides and front are curved. The fittings are in Louis XV style. The decorations consist of trompe-l’oeil glyphes. Often new furniture was veneered according to the newest style, whereas the design of the furniture still showed elements of former styles. The idea was that the new furniture would fit in better with the existing interior. The decoration of this piece of furniture shows all the Neo-classisist markings of the Louis XVI period, whereas the design still has a rococo appearance.
