Description
The console tables rest on two legs composed of S- and C-volutes, that are connected by a joint that is decorated with a palmette. The frieze is composed of large rocaille-shapes at the top of the legs, a shell-shape in the middle and half palmettes on the sides. All of this connected with voluted leaf-shapes. Legs and frieze are voluptuously cut with acanthus and leaf-motives. The decoration of the frieze reminds of French designers like Berain and Marot (ca. 1700). The rocailles over the legs however show the more modern character of Rococo. Exactly this mixture of styles makes these console tables so extraordinary and places them right in the middle of the Régence-period. The oak frame suggests that these tables stem from the south-west of Germany.
