A fire-gilt bronze Bouillotte lamp with two lights and an oval lampshade in tôle-peinte from the Louis XVI period. The fluted central stem supports two candleholders. In contrast to most models of the period, only the shade can be adjusted. Bouillotte lamps are named after the poker-like card game that was very popular in France in the late 18th and early 19th century. The lamp was positioned on the center of the table. To prevent glare from the candlelight the lampshade could be adjusted in height.
