Description
A big oblong sculptured panel with the old biblical subject of the sacrafice of Abraham. It is finely carved in oak which is quite difficult. It is a rare Northern Netherlandish art work which reveales the whole story. It was made in the first quarter of the seventeenth century.
The carving in the panel shows a sort of comic strip. Different episodes are shown in specific places of the panel. You can see Abraham and Isaac with wood for the sacrafice altar. There are servants with mules. In the centre is the principal theme: Abraham is going to chop of the head of Isaac but an angel stops him. In stead of his son a ram is sacraficed. This animal is stucked in a bramble. Beautiful sculpted details with panoramic views of towns, bushes and hills.
