Description

an oval little box with a mother-of-pearl decoration by Cornelis Bellekin

This little oval box is beautiful at all sides. On the lid is a plaquette made of mother-and-pearl representing singing nymphs and one on the back of a big fish with an harp. They could be the Sirenes. In the background is a ship. We think that it was executed by Cornelis Bellekin because he is the only one who could do this and it is very well comparible with his other work. The sides are decorated with siver and the underside has also a mother-of-pearl plaquette but it is flat. The inside is covered with turtle-shell and a mirror.
