Description

A tea caddy decorated on all sides with a trellis pattern. The nodes of the trellis are decorated with blossoms in boxwood on a sycamore base. The panels are framed in amaranth. The escutcheon and carrying handle are made of gilt bronze. The interior is divided in three compartments each containing a tin plate can with a brass lid decorated with a star motive.

Usually two types of tea were kept in the separate tins. The third canister was used for blending or for storing sugar. Tea caddies are always fitted with a lock because tea was an expensive commodity. The key was typically kept by the lady of the house making he the only person who had access to the stock.
