Description
This rectangular case has a waisted lid. The interior is veneered with pear wood. The outside is decorated in Boulle technique with tortoise, brass and ebony. All four sides show decorations of grotesques with birds and exotic profiled heads framed with a ribbon of C-volutes. Visually the ribbon ties the ornaments together. The waisted rim of the lid is decorated with connected motives of leaves and honeysuckle. The corners are elegantly trimmed with acanthus motives. The top of the lid is framed with a narrow brass ribbon. The plane is filled with a grotesque surrounded by C-volutes. Looking closely we can distinguish dragonflies birds and flower baskets. In the center an exotic individual in lotus position is seated under a canopy surrounded by birds and monkeys playing reed pipes. The high standard of craftsmanship adds to the enjoyment with which one will examine this desirable object.
