- During Art Rotterdam, Hotel Rotterdam offers overnight stays in the studios and homes of artists in Rotterdam.
Exclusively for guests of Art Rotterdam, we now present Hotel Rotterdam. During Art Rotterdam, Hotel Rotterdam offers overnight stays in the studios and homes of artists in Rotterdam.
The accommodation will be set up by the artist in a unique way. Art Rotterdam can easily be reached by public transport from all stays. Costs will be 40 euro for one person, 60 euro for two persons, breakfast included.
Guests
Guests are people visiting Art Rotterdam who wish to spend the night in Rotterdam. They can request accommodation on www.wakeupinart.nl. The exact address and artist will be revealed after registration as a guest, and after paying for the night. This surprise element is an essential part of Hotel Rotterdam. The accommodation could be at the studio of a famous artist, or with an upcoming talent, or in the house of a solitary working artist. The accommodation will be adapted for the night: Guests stay for a night in an exhibition that is made for them exclusively. They may even become part of an artwork for the night.
Artists
The organization has selected the participating artists. This has created an exciting group of 24 outstanding artists. For the artists, this is also a challenging event. They can be assured of exclusive interaction with an Art Rotterdam visitor. Artists can present their work to 1 (or 2) interested guest(s). Breakfast items will be chosen and served by the artist.
Special role
Both guest and artist will be randomly matched. Such an encounter starts with a certain unpredictability and creates a situation with a surprise outcome. At the start, their relationship will be unclear in the rather personal environment of the artist's residence. Will the guest feel like a welcome visitor, an art buyer, a voyeur, a distant acquaintance or an hotel guest? And the artist? Is he a gallery holder, friendly host or artist? In which role does he feel most comfortable? Will the artist choose to engage in a personal approach, for example through a shared breakfast with the guest, or will he choose a rather formal approach?
Art Rotterdam
Our reception desk will be situated at the entrance of Art Rotterdam. A staff member of Hotel Rotterdam will be present here. Check-in is possible at the reception desk, or directly at the accommodation. Payment must be made in advance. All information about Hotel Rotterdam can be obtained at the hotel desk. The hotel desk will be an artwork itself, designed as a small house. Image material and other impressions of the accommodation can be seen here.
The unexpected city
In 4 days, about 100 overnight stays will be offered to people who visit the city of Rotterdam during Art Rotterdam. The city will presents itself in a special way; the accommodation is scattered throughout the city. Guests will find themselves at surprising locations. They will see Rotterdam in a whole new light and will be exposed to impressions different from a more standard stay in a normal hotel. Participating artists represent their street, neighbourhood, city, and will proudly relate to the place they work and live. This project can be seen as an enthousiastic promotion of the city and its inhabitants.
