Hobbe Smith was born on December 7th, 1862 in Witmarsum and he died in Amsterdam May 1st, 1942. (Holland) Pupil of the National Academy in Amsterdam, from 1880 till 1885, directed by A. Allebe, a wellknown Dutch painter, later on he studied at the Art School in Antwerp (Belgium), here he learned the art of drawing. Hobbe Smith was a painter, made etchings and drawings of figures, portraits, nudes, sea- river- and townviews. Member of "Arti et Amicitiae" and "Sint Lucas" Amsterdam and of "Pulchri Studio" The Hague. Exhibitions in Amsterdam, The Hague, Rotterdam etc. Works by Hobbe Smith in possession of the National Museum Twente in Enschede and the Cuneratoren in Rhenen.
