Willem (W.H.P.) de Zwart, born in the Hague in May 1862, where he died on December 11th, 1931. Student of the Akademie van Beeldende Kunst in the Hague directed by Fr. Becker, J. Ph. Koolman and J.H. Maris. He worked for about 3 years at the pottery factory of Rozenburg in Loosduinen. Willem de Zwart was a painter, made watercolours, drawings and etched city-views, cattle markets with trading farmers, rainy days in the city with carriages, also painter of landscapes, figures, portraits and still lifes. He worked in a naturalist-impressionist style. De Zwart was called the "The Hague Breitner". He received several distinctions for his work at various Dutch and foreign exhibitions.
