Dirk Smorenberg was born in Alkmaar in 1883, he died in Oud-Loosdrecht in 1960. He was in the army till 1906. Smorenberg was self-taught and got advice from A. Allebé. He lived and worked a.o. in Alkmaar, Groningen, Montreux, Great Brittain, New York and Switserland, from 1924 on he lived and worked in Oud-Loosdrecht (The Netherlands). Member of St. Lucas and dof "The Independants" (De Onafhankelijken) in Amsterdam. Painter of landscapes, flowers (especially water-lillies) portraits and figures in a modern decorative style.
