Jaap Nieweg was born in Frisia (Friesland, The Netherlands) in 1877, he died in 1955. He lived in Groningen, Bloemendaal and Amersfoort. Jaap Nieweg had a doctorate in theology, he was a clergyman till 1914. From than on he devoted his time to painting. He made portraits and still-lifes, city views and interiors. Jaap Nieuweg was a very exact painter. He established the artgroup "De Burg" (The Bridge) in Amersfoort. His works are in possession og Museum Boymans-van Beuningen Rotterdam, Centraal Museum Utrecht and in the Kröller-Müller in Otterlo.
