Jürgen Klauke is certainly one of the most important German artists and fulfills a pioneer role as he recognized photography as an art form. He was one of the first to use his own body as the focus of his work and he began to stage his first performances. For more than three decades, Jürgen Klauke has built a comprehensive and ongoing body of work and shows existential issues from a personal vision: the relationship between objects and spaces, the ambiguity, the theatricality, the absurd, the sexual identity, imagination. His work asserts itself in an art world that often leans toward superficiality through an aesthetic statement which is not open to compromise.
