Willem de Klerk was born in Dordrecht in 1800, he died in Dordrecht in 1876. Pupil of P. Hofman (drawing) and he had painting lessons from A. van der Koogh. He travelled to the Ardennes in Belgium, to Luxembourg and in 1835 he travelled in Germany. He was a member of "Pictura" in Dordrecht since 1817, later on he became an honourable member of "Pictura". Painter of forests and of mountain landscapes, sometimes with cascades, often with cattle and/or figures. His works shows likeness in quality and representation with that of B.C. Koekkoek. Exhibitions in Amsterdam, The Hague and Haarlem. Works in possession of Museum Kröller-Müller in Otterlo, Dordrechts Museum, Rijksprentenkabinet Amsterdam and Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen in Rotterdam.
