André Lhote was born in Bordeaux, 1885, he died in Paris in 1962. André Lhote was a very active painter, he left a large and very high standard oeuvre. He was a student of the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Bordeaux where he first specialized in sculpturing. A. Lhote is a selftaught man regarding his paintings. He copied Rubens and Delacroix. André Lhote exhibited on the first cubic exhibitions in France were his work was discovered by, a.o., Apollinaire, André Gide and C. Morice. Paintings by André Lhote are in posession of musea all over the world. There are numerous publications and books about him.
