Nicolaas van der Waay 1855-1936 The name Nicholas van der Waay is inextricably linked with the city of Amsterdam and the National Academy there. He has over 30 years as a teacher to related and took along with the painter Auguste Allebé class accounted for. He was also a valued portraitist and painter of urban life. Van der Waay impressionist was a sensitive, clever in portraying a mood and capture what fascinated him: cafe and theater scenes, cityscapes and sophisticated performances, often with women in the lead. Several museums in the Netherlands work of Van der Waay, including the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam and the Historical Museum in Rotterdam
