Henri Manguin was born on March 23rd 1874 in Paris, France. He died on September 25th 1949 in St. Tropez, France. In 1894 he became a pupil at the studio of Gustave Moreau at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris together with Marquet, Matisse, Jean Puy and Ronault. Henri Manguin exhibited for the first time at the Salon des Indépendants in Paris in 1902. Painter and watercolourist of figures, nudes, landscapes, still lifes and flowers. Especially woman, naked, asleep, bathing and beautifying themselves had his preferance. He also painted several mediterranean landscapes. Important French Fauvist painter.
