Edward Portielje, son of Jon Frederik Portielje and younger brother of Gerard Portielje was born in Antwerp the 8th of February 1861 and died there in 1949. He attended the "Koninklijke Academie voor Schone Kunsten" in Antwerp. In 1894 he made for the international exhibition in Gent several murals together with Edouard de Jans and Joseph Doerickx. Edward Portielje was a painter of genre scenes, fishing scenes and interiors with figures.
