Open Art Fair 2010
08 septembre '10 - 12 septembre '10
The third edition of the Open Art Fair will open its doors on the evening of September 8th. Up to Sunday, September 12th, the visitors can enjoy a wide range of art, from contemporary painting and sculpture to photography, modern glass and jewellery.
With its wide offer of contemporary art, the Open Art Fair stands out in the Netherlands. All professional galleries, Dutch and foreign, are invited to participate. You don’t need to be a connoisseur to enjoy a visit to this art fair. The Open Art Fair shows artworks which can be appreciated and enjoyed by all art lovers, art collectors and amateurs alike. Along many well-know Dutch galleries, there are several interesting foreign participants, from France, England, Sweden and South-Africa.
In the previous years, the Open Art Fair was visited by 16.000 to 20.000 people, which makes the fair one of the best visited fairs for contemporary art in the Netherlands. 40% of the visitors had never visited an art fair before, an indication that this fair succeeds in attracting a new audience. One of the strongest characteristics of the fair and its charm is that a visit is a fun outing as well as an interesting opportunity to learn about and buy high level art works.
Solo-exhibition of sculptor Kees Verkade
A solo-exhibition of one of The Netherlands most renowned sculptors makes a visit to the fair this year even more worthwhile. Over 30 sculptures and drawings of Kees Verkade (born 1941) will be on show, in which the human body in all its dynamic poses and moving emotions is the central feature. Monumental sculptures by Kees Verkade, trained at the Royal Academy in the Hague, can be admired all over the world and many important people have been portrayed by this versatile artist, among whom Sir Winston Churchill, pianist Arthur Rubinstein and Princess Gracia from Monaco. The show will incorporate many recent sculptures and drawings by the master sculptor.
Furthermore, on Friday September 10th, a Charity Night will be organized by the Open Art Fair in collaboration with Plan Nederland. The evening will be all about the campaign ‘Because I am a girl’ of Plan Nederland. With this campaign the charity contributes to the lives of young girls in developing countries. Many galleries donate an artwork, which will be raffled among the visitors of the evening. Last years lottery was hosted by famous Dutch painter Ans Markus and many guests went home with an unexpected and highly appreciated artwork. This year we expect the evening to be a great success again, for Plan Nederland as well as for the galleries at Open Art Fair.
