Johannes Christiaan Karel Klinkenberg was born in The Hague 1852, where he died in 1924. He lived, worked and studied at the Art School in The Hague. Initially Johannes Klinkenberg painted landscapes and historical scenes, after 1880 he painted townviews with beautifull sunlight effects. He also made watercolours and etchings. Signed “Klinkenberg” or “J.C.K.”. Klinkenberg won several medals, a.o. 1875 in Amsterdam, 1880 Saxen-Weimar, 1888 Münich, 1889 Paris, 1890 Bavaria, 1899 Belgium, 1906 silver decoration of Oranje, 1909 officer on the orde van Oranje-Nassau. Exhibitions in Amsterdam and Rotterdam. Works in possession of numerous museums in The Netherlands.
