Art Film: Gerhard Richter Painting

'Gerhard Richter Painting' presents an intriguing portrait of the artist Gerhard Richter at work.

Shot primarily during the spring and summer of 2009, when Richter was working on a series of large abstract paintings in his studio, the documentary film gives compelling insights into Richter's artistic working process and approach to painting. The film captures the artist as he goes through the very personal and tension-filled processes of artistic creation, contemplating, waiting, rejecting, reworking and occasionally destroying work only to begin anew. A trenchant portrait of an artist at work, 'Gerhard Richter Painting' is also a compelling film about the art of seeing.
