A large famille verte charger
Wonderfully decorated in the famille verte palette and unusual in size, this charger depicts a scene of a high ranking dignitary amidst a court attendance.
Of particular interest is the artist’s attempt of perspective in the scene, a discipline that was not mastered by the Chinese until the Qianlong period (1736 1795) under influence of the Jesuit painter Giuseppe Castiglone (1688 – 1766).
China, Kangxi period (1662 – 1722), six character Chenghua Mark
Diameter: 46,5 cm
Condition: Two small hairlines (one visible front and reverse, the other only at the reverse).
