Comprising three jars and covers and two trumpet vases decorated in underglaze blue and delicately painted in gilt with peony blossom behind fences, the shoulders with dragons issuing from brocade with patterns and stylised pionies, the necks with chrysanthemums and scrolling foliage, the covers similarly decorated with finials modelled as " KARASHISHI " decorted in iron red enamel and gilt with two piony branches.
In the style, copying Chinese export ceramics, this remarkable garniture seems to be the only recorded five piece example. This should have been made to special order through the Dutch East India Company.
