Housing

The distant églomisé panel in the broken tympanum shows an image of a mounted dragon, below a panel of a palm wreath and floral rays. The tympanum is surmounted by a carved vase. The engraved plates are made of pewter and signed with JM Pagani Groningen

“Verre églomisé” (Reverse mirror technique) from the French term meaning smooth gilded, is a process of gilding the back of glass with gold or metal sheet. In one of a number of related processes, the metal is glued with a gelatin adhesive, resulting in a mirror-like, reflective finish in which designs are subsequently engraved.
