Extremely beautiful and special Skeleton clock signed 'Lepaute', France ca 1800.
Inverted Y-shaped skeleton timepiece reminiscent of the construction of Lepine, with two spring barrels for only time display, with a duration of 8 days. The remontoire weights provide a continuous force on the timepiece. Very special is the way in which this is achieved. The weights are always kept at the same height. Only after complete unwinding of the spring barrels drops the greater weight.
The compensation is carried out with a gridiron pendulum with a gimballed knife suspension.
An almost identical clock, signed Breguet, is on page 60 of "Precision Pendulum Clocks' France, Germany, America and recent advancements of Derk Roberts.
