The bottom is elongated into 'Romanesque' tabs. It has two metal ornaments on each flap of the sleeves and the bottom flaps which are symbols of the gladiator shield and of the city of Rome. The eagle was an ancient symbol for the fighting legion. The round medalian is the ancient symbol of the fighting shield. Each sleeve flap and bottom flap is surrounded by stitched-on gold braid
