Beautiful, reasonably early, oil on canvas painting "Waterlelies painted by the famous Dutch Art-Deco painter Dirk Smorenberg (1883-1960).
At the beginning of the twentieth century, the village of Kortenhoef in the province of Noord-Holland had a great attraction for artists from the Hague School. The self-taught Dirk Smorenberg also likes to come to this water-rich area. His fascination for everything that grows and blooms gets a strong impulse when he moves to nearby Loosdrecht in 1920. In those days a small village with simple fishermen's cottages. Smorenberg's house is in a fantastic location: the backyard borders the Loenderveensche Plas and from the front it overlooks a lake where water lilies grow
lushly. He prefers to get in his rowing boat every day to get inspired on and around the lakes in Loosdrecht. The atmospheric works by water lilies date from this period, for which Dirk Smorenberg is best known.
