José Serra Y Porson was a romantic Spanish painter and is considered the introducer of the tableauin genre in Spain. He studied with his teacher Ernest Meissonier and later became a professor at the School of Fine Arts of Barcelona, where they studied artists from the Catalan school, such as Modesto Urgell, José and Francisco Masriera and José Luis Pellicer. He began his training in Rome and the Academy of San Fernando in Madrid. In 1855 he moved to Paris to further his studies, where he was a student of said Meissonier.
