Jean-Gabriel Domergue Bordeaux (France) Paris 1889-1962 French painter Jean-Gabriel Domergue was a student of Edgar Degas and Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, and was best known portraitist of Parisiennes groomed and graceful nudes. Also made his name as a designer of art deco posters with elegant women as eye-catcher. He is also called the inventor of the Pin-up genoemd.Nadine Lhopitalier, actress and later wife of Baron Edmond de Rothschild, had long been his model. Domergue before devoting himself to the above subject, but he painted for over 20 years. Landscapes, the beach scene as a favorite theme. The artist lived from 1927 in Cannes, where he played an active role in cultural life and a wealthy clientele for his portraits of women did. Here in 1934 he left the Villa Fiesole (later Villa Domergue) building, where many celebrities, including Brigitte Bardot and Gina Lollobrigida, were posing.
