This still life with red and white amarylises was painted by Piet van Wijngaerdt. The use of dark tones is characteristic for the Bergen School (1915-1925), of which Van Wijngaerdt is one of the founders. This work is signed on the left front with 'Piet van Wijngaerdt' and on the back with 'Roode en Witte Amaryllis, Piet van Wijngaerdt, Amsterdam', as he did in most works.
