A pair of bronze Empire sculptures.
France, circa 1800.
The figures depict the mythological story of Atalanta and Hippomedes.
In a race Hippomedes drops three golden apples given by Aphrodite at the feet of Atalanta.
Atalante picks up the apples and therefore loses the race.
Hippomedes as the winner may now take Atalante as his wife.
