Count Alfred Emilien O'Hara de Nieuwerkerke (1811-1892): Equestrian statue of William of Orange. Patinated bronze on marble base.
De Nieuwerkerke was born in Paris, the son of a military officer of Dutch origin. He worked as a senior official under the Second Empire and became director of all museums in 1849 (including the Louvre). Beside that he was active as a sculptor from 1834 onwards.
