A model of the ruin of the temple of Castor and Pollux in red 'marmo rosso antico' on a black base.
The remains of this temple were considered by Grand Tour tourists as an outstanding example of Roman architecture and models of the temples of the Forum Romanum were very much sought after as souvenirs. The temple of Castor and Pollux dates from the beginning of the Roman Republic and was dedicated in 484 BC to the Dioscuri to thank them for their help to the Romans in the battle against the Latins. The temple was restored in the time of emperor Hadrian.
