A Burrwalnut Commode

A Burrwalnut Commode

Offered by Van Nie Antiquairs

The top is contoured on the front and sides
There are four drawers in the base cabinet
Two ball feet on the front
Brass fittings
The stylistic development of these cabinets runs parallel to that of cabinets, china cabinets and desks from the same period. The double curved piece of furniture has two 'ball feet' at the front. This commode is very exceptional in design. The drawer front is no longer completely flat, as was customary, but the top drawer protrudes from the cabinet body and the bottom drawer is curved.
The commode has protruding knees at the side posts and a plinth that encloses the whole
The drawer hardware is cut and engraved in yellow copper and inspired by English examples
For this piece of furniture the finest burr walnut veneer has been used for the top, front and sides.
