A Dutch Louis XV Commode

This very special Dutch piece of furniture can be called a masterpiece not only because of its rich geometric marquetry but also because of its good proportions.
Not only the drawer front but also the sides of the dresser are bombarded with beautiful marquetry. The furniture is fully decorated with veneer in diamond shapes. The marquetry is also not broken by three "rejuvenated" drawers.
The bottom drawer is shaped with apron. On the drawers are drawer pulls and a key plate in ormolu.
The arched legs end, for protection, in elegant openwork sabots in ormolu bronze.
Marquetry was an art that in the middle of the 18th century won over the Western European furniture industry, particularly through Germany. Leading German ébénists settled in Paris, where their work was in great demand among the 'rich and famous'. In the Netherlands, a number of cabinetmakers also devoted themselves to this particularly luxurious decorative technique.
