Pair of French gilt bronze Louis XV wall sconces

Pair of fire-gilt bronze mirrored appliques with two uneven arms. The base in the shape of opulent acanthus leafs and flowers, tapering into two variously decorated arms. The high twisted arm with florale element, tapering into a flower-shaped bobèche. The lower arm with more stylized twisted palmet leafs, tapering into a round bobèche with palmet leafs.

After the more dramatic idiom of the Barock, the style found a more airy and playful form in the Régence to eventually find its most frivolous form in the Rococo. It was attempted to find a balance in decor with usage of uneven elements. Characteristic for this pair of appliques, are the uneven bobèches on the both arms, which are typical for the late Régence or the early Louis XV period.
